Do you look forward to Monday, or do you wish it would never come?
My colleagues often say weekends are never long enough. They don’t like Monday mornings and see them as the start of another countdown toward Friday evening. And that’s understandable. I think many of them know how to rest better than I do, so they feel the contrast between the weekend and Monday more sharply.
As I mentioned yesterday, I spend my Sundays evening planning my week. Most of that planning naturally revolves around work, simply because work takes up the largest portion of my weekdays. Some people might argue that this means I’m “working on weekends”. Maybe that’s partly true—but what I choose to do and what I’m forced to do are very different things.
No one asks me to plan on Sunday, and it doesn’t take long. But the result is powerful: it softens the transition between weekend and weekday. In fact, I often feel excited for Monday, because it’s the day I get to start working on the things I’ve planned. And once we begin, we start to see progress. Monday gives me that opportunity.
Monday reminds me that I still have a role to play in this world. It’s the day when the wheels begin turning again, bringing me one step closer to my goals. Monday makes Friday evenings meaningful. Monday is the day I get to see my teammates. Monday quietly asks whether I still enjoy what I do.
Happy Monday!
